Sign Language and Artificial Intelligence: New Frontiers in Accessibility

Coming soon 2024-2025 Research & Design

Introduction

At Telefonica Innovacion Digital we focus on innovation and technological development, especially in areas such as artificial intelligence, Big Data, cybersecurity and cloud computing.

From the Experience Desing Lab team we seek to create valuable and accessible solutions that bring technology closer to people.

We ask students from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid to participate in the design of experiences that take into account inclusive proposals and solutions that bring people closer to a more connected world.

  • The training plan is developed by projects.
  • In teams made up of a maximum of four students.

All students are mentored by our team of innovation experts, who co-design the technology of the future with a people-centred approach.

Training projects

Sign Language and Artificial Intelligence: New Frontiers in Accessibility

  • LSE Interpretation to Text Project

Objective: to explore and develop innovative solutions that use artificial intelligence to improve accessibility through the interpretation of Spanish Sign Language (LSE) to text.

Students will research in teams the state of the art in this area and develop a functional prototype MVP that can translate LSE to text in real time, facilitating communication for deaf and hard of hearing people.

Sign Language and Artificial Intelligence: New Frontiers in Accessibility

  • Project Translation of text into LSE

Objective: to explore and develop innovative solutions that use artificial intelligence to translate written text into Spanish Sign Language (LSE).

Students will research as a team the state of the art in this area and develop an MVP that serves as a functional prototype that can translate text into LSE in real time, facilitating communication for deaf and hard of hearing people.

AI for Augmentative Communication: Intelligent Generation of Elements for Non-Verbal Communication

  • Complement of non-verbal communication

Aim: Students extend their knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence applied to augmentative communication.

Students research in teams and develop a prototype that uses AI to generate elements that facilitate non-verbal communication, such as gestures, facial expressions and symbols, thus improving interaction for people with difficulties in verbal communication.
