The challenge is aimed at students of User Experience Design, Audiovisual Communication, Engineering, or Technology with an interest in interfaces, or Psychology (perception, cognition, sensory processing).
The television experience uses visual cues to guide, indicate focus, and show changes in the interface.
For people with visual impairments, even those who use screen readers, this information does not always allow them to understand the structure or transitions.
This challenge proposes exploring sound as a navigation aid, studying how spatiality and rhythm can complement verbal reading and help build a clear mental map of the service.
I propose the following challenge:
The project focuses on exploring how sound can be used to convey structure, rhythm, and orientation within the television interface when visual information is not accessible.
Screen readers allow content and statuses to be read, but they do not provide spatial perception or a mental map of the experience. This project proposes designing an acoustic architecture that complements this reading with signals that indicate the beginning, end, focus, continuity, or transition in a clear and non-intrusive way.
The goal is to create a sound system that helps people with visual impairments understand the organization of the service and orient themselves within the interface through depth, directionality, and coherent sound patterns.
To support the development of the project, artificial intelligence systems capable of generating synthetic sounds, effects, textures, and soundscapes can be used. These tools allow the production of timbres, tones, short signals, and transitions that are especially useful for creating prototypes of start, end, focus, error, or confirmation, facilitating the exploration of a coherent and accessible sound architecture.
