Area of development

Challenge aimed at students of Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Digital Communication, or similar fields.

Also suitable for students of Economics or Politics with an interest in digital inclusion and social impact analysis.

Intro

Connectivity is essential for accessing online education, remote work, cultural leisure, and digital public services.

In Spain, fiber and 5G networks have achieved extensive coverage, but gaps still exist in rural areas and among vulnerable groups.

The infrastructure and services provided by major operators such as Telefónica are key to reducing this gap and bringing entertainment, education, and opportunities to more people.

Challenge Description

The proposal for this project is to investigate how connectivity infrastructure and digital inclusion programs can democratize access to information and entertainment, with a focus on rural areas and vulnerable groups.

Objectives:
- Analyze the digital divide in Spain based on public data (coverage, use, rates).

- Study digital inclusion projects and programs (e.g., Fundación Telefónica, public initiatives).

- Identify technical, economic, and social barriers that limit access.

- Explore international cases of good practices in digital inclusion and cultural/educational access.

- Propose innovative solutions that combine connectivity and access to content (cinema, online training, videoconferencing).

Final project:

Applied research report combining public data analysis, benchmarking of initiatives, and proposals for improvement. The deliverable will benefit from the contribution of evidence and models to guide digital inclusion programs and infrastructure use.
