We are part of the TCDN ( Telefonica Content Delivery Network ) which is a particular vision of the CDN concept for the distribution of video both IPTV and OTT (internet), currently is the CDN responsible for the distribution of Movistar+ video in Spain and MovistarPlay in Latin America for viewing TV on devices such as smartTV, tablets, mobiles, .... Being a multidisciplinary team composed of 10 people located in different Telefonica headquarters in Spain (Barcelona, Valladolid, Granada, Madrid) and doing much of our work remotely. We are currently working in 4 main areas: Optimization tasks and performance improvement of the TCDN servers, working with continuous performance integration tools and methodologies focused on obtaining a high performance and high efficiency product. Integration between the CDN and the transport network through the IETF ALTO protocol, with the aim of making transport more efficient and automating synchronization between both networks, exploring and prototyping new use cases. Another of the tasks being worked on is the participation in the Streaming Video Alliance (SVA), one of the most active industry organizations in video streaming, where it will monitor various working groups, identifying and participating in the most relevant activities for Telefónica. Finally, it is possible that the activity may also include tasks in the area of improving the user experience through the improvement of transport protocols, as well as in the area of applying AI techniques to TCDN. Depending on the interest of the fellow there is the possibility to focus the work on one or more of the above activities.

The scholarship offered will allow the scholarship holder to learn about the latest technologies and architectures for the distribution of video content through CDNs (Content Delivery Networks). In addition, it will offer the possibility to apply the theoretical and often unconnected knowledge acquired during their studies, as well as the new knowledge acquired during the fellowship, in the development of the TCDN, a commercial product that is designed, developed and operated internally at Telefónica, and which is at the level of the most advanced commercial solutions in the market. Participation in the Streaming Video Alliance will allow him/her to have direct contact with the most relevant players in the video streaming industry. Finally, the proposed activity will allow the intern to practice and improve his or her level of English, since an important part of the activity is carried out in this language.

Mainly a background in Telecommunications or computer science and its different variants is required. At the technical knowledge level, python programming and knowledge of the linux OS will be required.
